Commander Koenig convinces Mentor's daughter, Maya , of her father's sinister plans. She helps the Alphans escape as the planet’s volcanoes erupt, leading to the destruction of Psychon and the death of Mentor.

The wandering Moon approaches the planet , which contains titanium needed for repairs to Moonbase Alpha. An Eagle sent to the surface fails to return, and the Alphans are lured into a trap by Mentor (played by Brian Blessed), a scientist intent on restoring his dying planet.

Mentor plans to use the "living brains" of the Alphan crew to fuel Psyche , a biological computer designed to transform Psychon back into a paradise.
