The room fell silent, save for the crackling of the shorted-out machinery. Noir picked up the shard, its glow the only hint of color in his world. He looked at it, then at Peter.
The interdimensional portal hummed with a violent, jagged energy as Peter Parker and Miles Morales tumbled through the void. They had already survived a futuristic Neo York and a pirate-infested Caribbean, but the shard's signal was pulling them somewhere grittier, darker, and draped in shadows.
Peter took the shard, and the portal for their next jump began to open. "Thanks, Noir. Try to get some sun, okay?"
"Over here, Pete," Miles emerged from the gloom, his usually vibrant red-and-black suit now muted into shades of slate and charcoal. "I feel like I'm trapped in an old black-and-white movie."
"Not today, pal," Peter yelled, kicking a massive chandelier loose.
